Later Xerox Stars (6520, 6522 and 6540) were repackaged Sun workstations running a Solaris native port of ViewPoint/GlobalView.

The Xerox "Dlily" or Bounty Board was an ISA card with a MESA (Star 6085 compatible) CPU on it. This was used for running ViewPoint / GlobalView on an IBM PC compatible under OS/2. Later PC versions used software emulation.

Conclusion:

The desktop metaphor introduced by the Xerox Star was borrowed and enhanced in many other systems such as the Apple Lisa, Macintosh, GEM, and Windows. It seems today, however, the lessons learned are being forgotten in a world of amateur web applications, competing GUI toolkits, and marketing eye-candy.
